Engineering the
Body's Natural Flush

The lymphatic system is the body's primary mechanism for clearing metabolic waste — lactic acid, cytokines, and inflammatory byproducts that accumulate in tissue during intense training, injury, or periods of sustained physiological stress. Unlike the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system has no pump. It relies on muscle contractions and movement to circulate. After a hard training session or a long day of limited movement, this system stalls — and recovery stalls with it.

Normatec's sequential pneumatic compression technology replicates and amplifies this process mechanically. Compressed chambers inflate in a precise, pulsing sequence from the distal extremity inward — mimicking the peristaltic motion of the lymphatic system at a scale and efficiency the body cannot self-generate at rest.

The result is dramatically accelerated clearance of metabolic waste, reduced swelling and edema, restored circulation, and a measurable return of fresh, oxygenated blood to fatigued tissue — in a fraction of the time passive recovery requires.

  • Accelerated clearance of lactic acid and inflammatory metabolic byproducts
  • Significant reduction in post-exercise swelling and edema
  • Restored circulation and oxygenated blood delivery to fatigued tissue
  • Shortened recovery window between training sessions
  • Reduced sensation of heaviness and fatigue in the lower limbs
  • Support for venous insufficiency and chronic circulatory conditions
  • Improved parasympathetic activation and rest state recovery
  • Prevention of fluid pooling following long periods of inactivity or travel

Not All Compression
Is Created Equal

Standard compression garments apply static, uniform pressure. Normatec's patented biomimetic pulse technology is categorically different — it uses dynamic, sequential compression that moves systematically through zones, preventing fluid from being pushed back while simultaneously flushing waste toward the lymph nodes.

The hold feature at each zone prevents backflow — a physiological detail that most compression systems ignore entirely. This means the flush is complete, directional, and clinically effective in a way that passive compression simply cannot replicate.

At Melita ReGen Lab, Normatec is available as a standalone recovery session or can be paired with other modalities for an integrated protocol — all within your membership, all without a per-session fee.

The Full Clinical Range of
Compression Therapy

Sequential pneumatic compression addresses a far wider range of conditions than most people associate with a recovery sleeve. The following covers the full breadth of what Normatec compression therapy is clinically used for and studied in.

01
Post-Surgical Edema Management

Following orthopedic surgery — knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, hip arthroplasty — fluid accumulation in the operated limb is one of the primary barriers to rehabilitation progress. Sequential compression accelerates lymphatic clearance of post-surgical edema, reducing swelling, improving range of motion access, and shortening the timeline between surgery and active rehabilitation.

02
Lymphedema Support

Lymphedema — chronic swelling caused by lymphatic system compromise — is typically managed through manual lymphatic drainage and compression garments. Sequential pneumatic compression provides a mechanically superior alternative to static garments, actively mobilizing lymphatic fluid through the affected limb in a directional, zone-by-zone sequence that manual drainage approximates but cannot consistently replicate.

03
Deep Vein Thrombosis Prevention

Prolonged immobility — long-haul flights, bed rest, post-surgical recovery — significantly increases DVT risk by allowing blood to pool in the lower extremities. Sequential compression counters this by maintaining active venous return, preventing stasis, and keeping the circulatory system moving when the body cannot. A critically important application for frequent travelers and post-operative patients.

04
Venous Insufficiency

Chronic venous insufficiency — where damaged or dysfunctional valves in the leg veins fail to return blood efficiently to the heart — produces persistent heaviness, aching, swelling, and skin changes in the lower limbs. Regular sequential compression supports venous return, reduces the pressure that builds in incompetent venous segments, and provides symptomatic relief that static compression stockings alone cannot match in magnitude or duration.

05
Restless Leg Syndrome

The uncomfortable urge to move the legs — particularly at rest and in the evening — associated with restless leg syndrome has demonstrated meaningful response to pneumatic compression in clinical research. The mechanical stimulation of the lower limbs appears to interrupt the neurological signalling pattern that drives the sensation, providing relief during and for extended periods following compression sessions.

06
Peripheral Arterial Disease Support

In mild to moderate peripheral arterial disease, sequential compression applied intermittently has been studied for its ability to improve skin perfusion, increase walking distance, and support wound healing in the lower limbs — where compromised arterial flow slows tissue repair. Applied appropriately under clinical guidance, compression can be a valuable adjunct in peripheral vascular management.

07
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness

DOMS — the soreness that peaks 24–48 hours after unaccustomed exercise — is driven partly by the accumulation of inflammatory metabolites and microtrauma-related fluid in muscle tissue. Sequential compression clears these byproducts systematically and has been consistently shown in sport science research to reduce the perceived intensity of DOMS and shorten recovery to full performance capacity.

08
Injury-Related Swelling & Bruising

Acute soft tissue injuries produce immediate inflammatory edema that, if left unmanaged, slows rehabilitation and prolongs pain. Sequential compression applied in the subacute phase — once the acute inflammatory response has peaked — accelerates fluid clearance, reduces bruising resolution time, and restores tissue mobility faster than passive management alone.

09
Pregnancy-Related Lower Limb Swelling

Oedema of the lower limbs is among the most common and uncomfortable features of later pregnancy — driven by increased venous pressure from the growing uterus and hormonal changes in vascular tone. Sequential compression provides safe, non-pharmacological relief of lower limb swelling in pregnancy, improving comfort and supporting venous return without the limitations of static compression garments.

10
Nervous System Recovery & Parasympathetic Activation

Beyond its circulatory effects, the rhythmic pressure waves of sequential compression produce a measurable parasympathetic nervous system response — lowering heart rate, reducing cortisol, and shifting the body toward a restorative physiological state. For athletes and high-performers carrying chronic sympathetic load, a Normatec session doubles as a powerful nervous system reset alongside its physical recovery benefits.

11
Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

Reduced circulation to the extremities is central to the symptom progression of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Sequential compression improves microvascular perfusion to the feet and lower legs, supporting tissue health, reducing the risk of ulceration, and providing symptomatic relief from the numbness, tingling, and pain associated with compromised peripheral circulation.

12
Performance Periodization & Training Load Management

For athletes managing high training volumes, Normatec functions as a periodization tool — applied strategically between sessions to accelerate recovery, maintain training quality across a microcycle, and reduce the accumulated fatigue that degrades both performance and injury resilience over a training block. Consistent recovery investment compounds into better long-term adaptation.

Every Body That
Demands More From Itself

Endurance Athletes

Runners, cyclists, and triathletes who accumulate high training loads and need rapid leg recovery between sessions.

Strength & Power Athletes

Clear the metabolic waste that limits subsequent performance — return to the next session fresher and stronger.

Post-Event Recovery

After races, competitions, or peak training weeks — accelerate the return to baseline in hours, not days.

Chronic Swelling & Edema

Support lymphatic function and venous return for those managing chronic lower limb fluid retention.

Frequent Travelers

Counteract the circulatory effects of long flights and extended sitting with a targeted post-travel recovery session.

Active Recovery Days

On rest days, Normatec keeps the system moving — supporting adaptation without adding physiological stress.

Please Note — Normatec compression therapy is generally well-tolerated and widely regarded as safe. However, it may not be appropriate for individuals with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), active infections or open wounds in the treatment area, severe peripheral arterial disease, or acute congestive heart failure. We recommend consulting your physician prior to your first session if any of these conditions are a concern. Our team is happy to answer questions before you begin.
